Mercedes-Benz builds everything from the A-Class to the G-Class and the AMG GT. We identify the engine code (M, OM or AMG M-series), gearbox and suspension system first, because a G 63, an S 500 and a C 43 have very little in common under the skin.

Engines and their known items
Earlier engines have well-documented issues: balance-shaft and timing-chain wear on early M272 V6s, timing-chain stretch on M276 and M278 engines. AMG’s M157 5.5 and M177/M178 4.0 twin-turbo V8s are “hot-V” layouts, which age turbo oil and coolant lines, valve-cover seals and wiring faster. The newer M256 straight-six and M264 four-cylinder add 48 V systems (EQ Boost) with their own diagnostics.
Gearboxes
7G-Tronic (722.9) is known for conductor-plate and valve-body faults: limp mode, harsh shifts and speed-sensor codes. 9G-Tronic (725.0) is more robust but sensitive to fluid level and adaptation. AMG Speedshift MCT replaces the torque converter with a wet start-up clutch. AMG GT and SLS use a rear-mounted dual-clutch transaxle. We diagnose with data, then service, repair or re-adapt.
Airmatic, ABC and E-Active Body Control
Airmatic (air springs and adaptive dampers) fails in heat the same way as other air systems: leaking struts and an overworked compressor. Active Body Control (hydraulic, on S, CL and SL) uses a pump, accumulators and valve blocks. Its fluid and filter service is often skipped, and a leak shows as the car sitting low or a warning after parking. We pressure-test the hydraulics.
G-Class
The G-Class (W463 and W463A) adds ladder-frame, solid-axle (pre-2018 front) and three locking differentials to the usual Mercedes electronics. Front-axle seals, steering-box play on older cars and differential-lock actuators are our usual G-Class jobs, along with heat-related cooling work on the G 63.
designo paint and finishes
designo magno (matte) paint cannot be machine-polished like gloss. It is cleaned and protected with matte-safe products and matte PPF. Gloss AMG colours and designo metallics are measured before correction, because Mercedes clear coat is hard and correction takes time.

Questions
My Mercedes goes into limp mode with a gearbox warning. Is the gearbox finished?
On 7G-Tronic cars the conductor plate (electronic board inside the gearbox) is a frequent cause, along with speed-sensor faults. It is repairable without replacing the gearbox. We confirm with data before quoting.
Why does my S-Class sit low after being parked?
On Airmatic cars, usually a leaking strut. On ABC cars, a hydraulic leak or a tired accumulator. We test the system to find which component is failing.
What oil does my Mercedes need?
The one with the Mercedes approval (MB 229.x) for your engine. Different engines need different approvals. We check the specification for your car and record what we used.
Can you polish designo magno (matte) paint?
No — not like gloss. Matte paint is cleaned with matte-safe products and protected with matte PPF or a matte coating. Polishing would leave shiny patches.
